For The Damaged - Blonde Redhead

One of my favourite summer pastimes includes laying around my house, digging into a good book. There's a massive stack of books by my bed, which I've am constantly working through. I read two at once, usually something light hearted, something not so light.
Another perk of the magazine is that I acquire a lot of really good free books. (And some really bad books too). We don't really do book reviews so they usually end up on the free shelf, where I snap them up, happily.

"Dear Diary" by Lesley Arfin supplied me with four solid hours (it's a quick read) of laughter and pensive thought about why teenage girls, in particular are so horrible to each other (myself included, a long time ago). Arfin also talks about her own problems with addiction and her days in rehab. She is brutally honest about everything. In short, it's a pretty awesome read. It will make you laugh, and while you probably won't cry, you'll be left scratching your head a lot.

Today Lesley Arfin writes for Vice, iD as well as the now defunct Jane (I heard she contributes to Nylon too). And I aways enjoy her columns. They're honest and funny.
She had a spread in last month's iD magazine and I can't find any of the photos online (maybe I didn't look hard enough). Anyways, you should check it out. It's quite cute.

Short Circuit - Daft Punk

These were shoes from an upcoming fashion spread for the magazine. I nearly short circuited when I saw them all! They were sitting around our office waiting to be shipped back to their rightful owners. I managed to snap a few fuzzy shots to share with you.

I've seen a lot of Kork-eases around the office this summer. They're suppose to be uber comfortable. . . which I'm always a fan of. However, the look just doesn't do it for me. I think they're kind of ugly. . . but you know, what? I wear Birkenstock clogs on my "off" days, so who am I to talk?

I love, love, love Chanel flats. They are the ultimate in luxury (for me). Maybe one day, I'll stop being such a cheapskate and shell out for them.

And these are Sofia's personal favourites. They're Acne shoes and I think they're quite sweet. I'm such a sucker for anything green.

But since none of these shoes are quite in my budget, here's some that are, which I purchased today. Oh Target ($14.99)!
PS- Shoes which I posted about yesterday turned out to be really funny looking in person.

Nowhere Fast - Blackalicious

Sometimes when I can't sleep, I like to stay up, reading blogs and planning what I will do tomorrow. Tomorrow/today, I'm going to Target to look for these shoes. I am also guilty of looking at Marni on eBay, late at night. (Have you seen some of the fantastic fakes?)

The Free Design - Stereolab

Today Meredyth, Julia, Gwen and I ventured to the Marimekko store in Silver Spring. It is really awesome, if you live in the DC area, you shouldn't miss out. It's so ridiculously bright and colourful, the store alone with chase away any blues. And something about purchasing colourful things, cheers me up (superficial as it may be).

Of course, Meredyth and I fell in love with the same shapeless frock. I've always loved flowly, shapeless type dresses (which my father refers to as "matronly" as in "Ahhh you're looking matronly as ever today (smirk, smirk)". But I think Sofia really nurtured the love of all things big and floaty. Anyways, both Meredyth and I tried it on. At $136, we don't have to worry about who can have it. . . but as soon as it goes on sale, oh it is on!

I'm getting some stuff for my new room, providing things go according to plan. . . I'll probably be moving back to the DC area. Not that I'm over New York. . . but yes, I actually kind of am. Atleast for a few months or so.

That's Us/Wild Combination - Arthur Russell

I love coming home to greenery and the lake.
I love driving my volvo with the windows down and the music loud.
I love Sofia.
I love girlie days and sun dresses.

I love that Sofia looks so glamourous even while scoopin' poop.

I love my new dress which I admired for so long and bought deeply discounted.

Summer on the Westhill - Kings of Convenience

You know that girl who effortlessly wears ratty clothing, but makes them look somewhat high fashion? Yup, that's my sister. Don't get me wrong, she's got her off days like all of us do. . . but for the most part, she can take an outfit that I would get wrong, wrong, wrong and make it right.

These girls were stoopin' it outside with their shaved ice and bubble tea. They were as sweet as their flavored ice, so I snapped their picture. Summertime in the city. . .

Boy - The Magic Numbers

I got new shoes.
Kidding. I got boy's shoes.
I'm sending shoes to boy. Because I am the best. (And he knows it).

Swing 42 - Django Reinhardt

Last week I was enjoying my dessert with my friends and my Aunt. And nothing takes me away from my dessert. Ever.
Except the woman standing in the corner of my eye, wearing a beautiful poofy white skirt.

And because I loved it, naturally, I could never afford it. It was Marni. (Of course, my great fashion love)

Same Old Show - Basement Jaxx

Gosh I love this dress with my Smurfette shoes ($2, Salvation Army). Dress, Kate Moss for Topshop (bought from Opening Ceremony for way more than it probably should have been).

Where Am I?

A couple weeks ago, I found myself in unfamiliar turf for work. Which is always awesome.

This building is as high tech as they come. And kind of a tourist trap.

It's kind of a dead give away.

Surely you know where I am.
Fed refered to it as "cheesy beyond belief".

Where Are You? - Cara Dillon

Everything has been so busy and hectic, I haven't had tons of time to blog (and I feel kind of guilty about that). And I'm feeling a little down. I miss my roomie so much. The house seems too empty and quiet without him.
Here are some old photos from a shoot. Just another day at the office. . .

Fragile - Sting

For every weird, indescribable emotion I have, there is an Exploding Dog cartoon to illustrate it. I swear.
Recently I feel:
"Let's Get It On"

"Maybe I Try Too Hard"
