Consider this a virtual midnight kiss from my lips to your face, dears. It's like she never even broke his heart in that movie that tugged at all of our heart strings. Let's hope 2012 is as happy as their jolly little melody. Click the snowflake to make it snow. (C'mon, you know you want to).
I'll probably be wearing this dress and standing around drinking cocktails with Emi and her interesting colleagues. What about you?

This week I have taken a break from wearing make up, working out and dancing ballet.
And let me tell you, it feels glorious. Ballet's pretty trendy right now. There are blogs devoted to posting dewey pictures of lithe ballerinas in perfect arabesque but often I wonder how many of the admirers truly understand the hard work that goes into the art form? Don't get me wrong, sometimes it makes you feel great. But as much as it lifts you up, it can also bring you down. So this break was timely.
Tonight I snuggled deep into one of my parent's cozy armchairs, drank a cold creamy beer and cracked open the copy of Brooklyn Magazine Cornpuddin' brought home from her apartment in NYC. The highlight of the magazine for me was the short story by Justin Taylor. Have you had a chance to glance at it yet?

Kat George has brought the Australian brand, Dress Up to my attention. I must say, minimalism seems to be that on pointe trend that everyone strives for these days. But that doesn't mean everyone does it well. I like that Dress Up keeps it simple, while still adding their own touches, like a sneaky culotte or an exaggerated shirt tail to the mix.

It's all too much sometimes. I remember once as a child, thinking that adults were so terribly silly for dreading the holidays. I mean what's not to love? My naive child like mind is a constant source of nostalgic humor as I glance back knowingly from my big girl shoes (I hate that stupid phrase). The problem is, now that I'm working on most weekends (in addition to M-F), I am left with no time for pretty much anything. I have a specific list of goals for every weekend and if I make it through half, it's a miracle, but I still feel incredibly guilty. Cleaning my room is ever present on that list because the place is a bonified shithole. I can't walk without tripping over something. Last weekend I:
- Cleaned my bathroom. (It didn't take long).
- Grocery shopped.
- Bought more presents.
- Treated my Pops to brunch.
- Helped my sister and her husband unpack their house.
And despite it all. I still feel (sigh), like I got nothing done. Isn't that the worst?
Speaking of big girl shoes, how ridiculous are these bespoke Nikolas Kirkwoods? If I bought these to wear on Christmas morning would you all give up on me? Yeah? Yup, I would too.

Do you feel it?
Does it stir your soul?
Can you feel it within your chest?
This, is why I dance. It's all so perfect, who could want for more?
(And Philip Glass' string quartets are one of the many reasons why one day I will play the cello).
Nowness and Block Magazine present this stunning video with the help of New York City Ballet principle Janie Taylor, who wears Chloe through out.

You can really get a good grasp on my moods by looking at the colors in my Pinterest. Lately it's been a lot of sea green, grey, but mostly white. I keep pining for white rooms and I recognize that as a desperate plea for simplicity in my own life. Trust me. My own room? A state of disaster. My life? That too. I run from one job to another often emptying one bag, exchanging it for a larger one, grabbing my laptop, swapping shoes, throwing the discarded pair in the closet, taking in a box of something I ordered and dumping it on the floor, to open later hastily lacking the usual joy I get from ordered clothing. I want to keep working, obviously, but in the new year, I'd like a little bit of calm and order too. Here's hoping. But for now enjoy my favorite white rooms.

I promise not to turn this into a look-how-cute-my-niece-is blog. But I was completely taken off guard by how much joy this baby would bring into our lives.
(PS - That's my baby picture. I told Mum that she looked like me and it was denied until I pulled out the albums).

Sorry I'm such a misery guts you guys . . . but thanks for leaving me such sweet messages. The blogging community has made me more friends than I ever imagined and I'm pretty grateful for it. My increasingly busy schedule plus the holidays in general are definitely getting me down. So what did I do? I went and bought myself some Chloe ballet flats. Because money can't buy happiness . . .
. . . but it can certainly buy you some kickass shoes.
I'm including my latest favorite song. I'm probably going to overkill this this winter, I just know it. Enjoy!

How does it happen?
One minute you are fine. You are gainfully employed by a few places. Your family is healthy and happy. You feel okay . . . fine actually. And then, like the mass exodus of a flock of birds from a tree, all your happiness drains out of the picture. And suddenly you're left in a foul mood with the idea that the world is against you. I'm not sure how it happens . . . but it happens. I think mostly it's effected by the fact that it's winter, I'm quickly reaching the point of being "burnt out" and that I am long overdue for a very real vacation. Occasionally it feels like there's a void in my life where love should be. A big gaping hole the size of a crater. Sometimes I just want to turn everything and everyone off.

So this is my first ever gift guide you guys! And I think it kind of sucks but because all the other bloggers do it, I supposed I should take a stab at it too. Now this would be the winter that I tried to convince my family that we absolutely shouldn't do presents so my picks are probably going to be pretty crap. So after that raving review, let's jump right into it, shall we?
First installment. What do you get for that sister or best friend? Sometimes you want to wring her neck, but most of the time you love her to bits and she makes you laugh like none other. Well, the options are pretty endless here, but I'll go with my favorites since I am both sister and friend with a fairly wringable neck.
So one of the more reasonable things on Cornpuddin's list was the Bobbi Brown 20th Anniversary Lip Palette. It's not exactly cheap at $60, but it's cheaper than an all expense paid trip to Europe.
And what sort of grinch wouldn't want a hat with an animal's face on it? I bought this fox hat for myself but there's a range of them from ($10-$20) including a racoon one. Makes me think of a certain someone who loves raccoons because "they're mean as shit".
I also think this Basquiat candle would look great in a neat uncluttered space. Meaning, not my house.
Last week I purchased these arm warmers from J. Crew in both grey and black. But I laughed when I found that J. Crew calls them "ribbed glovettes" because that sounds like a saucy code word for condoms, doesn't it? Either way, they were on sale for cheaper than they are on the website and they made me instantly happy. No cold wrist for me this winter, thank you very much.
Nothing says "I recognize that you enjoy fashiony shit", like giving someone something by the two peas in a pod, Tom Ford and Carine Roitfelt. The fashion friend loves a nail polish and a book.
I do believe that holiday present giving should be about buying people stuff, that they normally wouldn't buy for themselves. Yes $30 for Tom Ford nail polish is ludicrous. But if it's just one and someone else purchased it, it's not so bad, is it?
Carine Roitfeld's Irreverent, I actually haven't had the chance to flip through, but I like Carine so I'll take a leap of blind faith on this one.
Last, but certainly not least, I haven't tried the Clean Fresh Laundry scent. But I've tried the other Cleans and I have a hunch that it probably smells amazing. I meet very few people who do not like these products. Fail proof.
Refinery29's holiday designer collaborations are pretty flippin sweet. I could go for most of the items (bummer about the final sale business). But I think I'm going to order this Samudra Beach Inspired clutch for myself. Which means you could probably get it for any cool friend and they would most likely love it too.
So . . . READY . . . SET . . . SHOP.
The Refinery29 clutch is no longer available which is such a bummer because I didn't get my hands on it either. However, this swell tote from Roxy" is and it's on sale. Hurry, before that slips through our fingers as well!
Refinery29 clutch is back on the site until Saturday. I'm buying mine right after I write this.
(Also, I realize there are lines in some of these pictures, but to go back and fix them would make me want to ram my head through the computer and I'd like to avoid that, if I could . . .)

"I don't wanna buy anything from any store and I don't want to wear anything in my wardrobe."
This lady has piles of style and humour to match. How could you not love her? I mean she's Peas . . .
Scarf - Sonia Rykiel
Pants - I forgot . . .
Sweater - Can't even take a stab on this one.
Boots muthafuckin' boots - Acne

I nearly screamed at my desk when I read this. Instead I screamed on twitter and I rarely find it necessary to use all caps. I haven't been into designer collaborations recently. It's not that I don't like them, it's that often they carry a pricetag nearly as steep as the regular high end merchandise on sale . . . so it all seems a bit counter productive? I mean people selling low grade Missoni scarves on eBay for higher than a really gorgeous one at Nordstrom Rack makes no sense to me.
But I pretty much love everything Marni puts on the runway and I'm prepared to (sigh) . . . even wait in line for it.
I really have my fingers crossed that there will be lots of cool accessories similar to this sold out horn and flower necklace from The Outnet. Marni's jewelry always catches my eye but rarely does my wallet agree with me that I need a $900 wood necklace.

I always like the selection of stationary and paper goods from Lazy Oaf, but this year their holiday cards are really ace!
Speaking of holidays, my darling younger sister Cornpuddin' has sent around her annual Christmas/Birthday list. Each year is more amazing than the next. Because you see, my sister is quite a serious girl. Quite serious about you buying things for her. The real stand out gems from this year's list include: an all expenses paid European vacation and a good boyfriend. Which is curious because I want those things too . . . (strokes chin . . . )

Today is a gloomy, blue day outside. Unlike this bright pop of blue on these khakis.
I will definitely be trying this Honestly WTF DIY Tutorial for the spring time. Those who know me well, understand my love for all things color blocked. One commenter mentioned that they might try this in green. What a great idea! Mint green or an emerald would be most excellent. Either way, this is being filed away in the back of my mind. I would make a special note to buy some chinos thrifted, just in case you hate the result. No need to make a rash decision and ruin the expensive Acnes.
I'm already daydreaming about spring returning to us. You?
