Colors - April Smith and the Great Picture Show

If everyone has a fashion vice, mine is that I'm a total sucker for monochromatics. I just find nothing is easier or looks better.

Kizuna - Ryuichi Sakamoto

Today, I am home, sick and somber. It looks deceptively warm outside my window, but I know better. When my allergies attack, there's not much I can do except lie around my house and wait it out. I read. I get bored. I write in my journal. Make a cup of tea. Rinse, lather and repeat.

This looks like it will be amazing. Those of you who know me well, know that Ryuichi Sakamoto is my most favorite composer. I wish I had money for both the trip and the ticket, but at this point, there's no point because all the shows are quickly selling out. Which is great for sake of the benefit.

So I'm going to do something on a smaller scale. I'm going to purchase a necklace from Homako, my favorite Etsy seller who is giving a portion of her sales to various charities in her home country of Japan. Do what you can, even if it's something small. (And if you enter "HEARTJAPAN" in the coupon box on her Etsy site, you can get free shipping too).

L.I.P.S.T.I.C.K. - Ralph Myerz

Lately when life seems hopeless, I find myself coating my lips in red lipstick. I never thought in all my life that I would wear make up, let alone turn to it when times are tough. But the old adage, rings true. When you look good, you feel good (or at least you try and convince yourself that everything is a-ok). What is your go to pick-me-up? We should make a list and keep it some place safe.

California Dreaming - The Mamas & the Papas

Every time I hear California Dreaming, I think about eating a late dinner in a restaurant in the South of France and singing that dreamy tune at the top of my lungs, with my family and my friends much to the disapproval of our fellow diners. Every time I visit the site Closet Visit, I long for California. Funny that.

Maybe I could move to California eventually. But only if I had cool friends like these ladies. I love how Claire Cottrell resembles Holly Hobbie in every photo and owns just as many striped shirts as I do! Meanwhile Wandie Kabule has the most regal and elegant posture in every photo.

So it's safe to say Closet Visit is my new favorite fashion/style/lifestyle blog. Check it.

Help! - The Beatles

Okay internet, I need help again.
This was taken from a Topshop mass email.
Question: who makes that girl's pants?
I desperately, want them, need them . . . in summary, they will complete me.
Many thanks!

Farewell To The Pressure Kids - Broken Social Scene Presents Kevin Drew

Date night tonight. Nothing like the nervous anticipation of a first date. But first a sweat pants day. And if you're going to insist on wearing sweatpants even around the house, let them at least be the low crotch style hammerpants type. Because then it looks like you haven't completely given up on life.

Loser - Beck

Fast Society Version 2 Launch from Fast Society on Vimeo.

I am beginning to feel like the unimpressive sister out of the three of us. I have nary a cute little interracial bun in my oven nor have I been featured in a national advertisement lately. Help me internet! How can I outdo these bitches?

Anniemal - Annie

Although spring is supposedly here, I refuse to be that person running around in shorts and sandals. First thing, I don't want to get sick. I hate being sick, it is the absolute worse. Second, the older I get the more I've learned the importance of not rushing life and the seasons. There is a time for everything. Third, all the great winter stuff is on sale right now. These booties from Manimal aren't . . . but there are the type of thing I would wear year round, don't you think?

To All Of You - RJD2

A true friend is the one who comes over when you are moody and hard to deal with if only to remind you that there are a lot of stupid people in this world which you can make fun of together.

So I just want to give a shout out to that friend.

Some might call it "hatin'", but we like to think of it as saving the world from our wrath, one glass of wine at a time.

Pablo's Heart - Four Tet

I had a good old fashion car sob tonight, while listening to the news reports on Japan and hearing people speak of missing loved ones. I normally, find crying in my car to be somewhat satisfying because it's the only place that's completely private. (Or at least I consider it "private", similar to those who pick their nose behind the wheel and swear no one can see them). These tears were a mixture of emotions.

Those of you who haven't heard, I am going to be an Aunt. This morning I heard her heart beat.

It was unbelievably beautiful.

And for that brief moment, I felt as if everything was alright in the world again.
SW and Taylor are right, resilience is a funny thing. But love always prevails. And quite often it's the love in our lives which allow us the luxury of resilience.

To end this on a happy note, we were all a bit relieved it's a girl. We wouldn't know what to do with a boy.

Wilhelms Scream - James Blake

james blake - Wilhelms Scream from Ease on Vimeo.

Just in case you missed James Blake on every other blog under the sun, I thought I'd bring up the rear and post this beautiful video. (Thank me later for being so on the pulse). I have almost over killed this song but thank goodness, I took a few weeks off from it, before that happened. Now I can listen to it again! With a voice reminiscent of Erin Neville and a choir boy face, this dude is winning over the masses quickly. Throw them bows, Blake.

Have a sexxie weekend.

Spectator and Pupil - Violens

Rodebjer is one of those brands that always has a couple nice pieces in every collection which I would love to try on. Green dress. Can I get a "what, what". Sometimes I really miss living in NYC for that reason. Chances of a DC boutique carrying the brand = slim to none.

Hungerford Bridge - Underworld & Gabriel Yared

Whenever winter decides to return for the sake of scaring us all back into hiding, Rick Owens has me covered. Literally. Like an art teacher. Except not quite as frumpy. It's really reached that point in winter where cold days seem longer and more unbearable than all others.

Mar De Gavea - Arto Lindsay

Maybe I just have a certain flair for the drama but when I wake up to hear rain outside my window, it is truly glorious, like this morning. Really feeling blues and greys these days. But I'm so pleased that summer brights are back in style. Last time this color of blue was super stylish, I was in grade school. As usual there's one piece of APC's spring collection which catches my eye. And there's always some sort of chair which I need in my living room.

Margaret Tiger Rug - Alexander Skip Spence

I love Margaret Howell's aesthetic. Though I have yet to see the clothes in person, the likeness reminds me of my favorite classic pieces in my wardrobe. It also reminds me that summer is right around the corner! Hip hip hooray!

Maybe So, Maybe No - Mayer Hawthorne

Gone snowboarding. Enjoy this great song and video from Mayer Hawthorne. They make me want to move to California and play this song on my fancy car stereo as I drive off into the sunset. Yeah, something like that. Be back soon.

(The more likely scenerio is that I will listen to this on my ipod tomorrow as I repeatedly land on my a** on the slopes. It'll keep my spirits high).

Get It Together - Seal

I may have told some of you that I would start including more of my work into this blog (which in the past I've conveniently left out). I try and keep things quiet but I have to share because this last show was SUCH a beautiful, experience. Full of good cheer, team work and a genuine joie de vivre. I'm very proud to call myself the associate producer on shows such as this. I don't take many photographs because I'm there to work . . . but lucky for me . . . Seal takes the most fantastic photos on his super cool Leica and then post them on his Flickr page. If the man weren't already one of the most talented musicians (and all around nice guy), he should definitely turn his eye to photography. Gotta hate those people with talent shooting out of their pores.

The best part of being at the White House is the feeling of everyone being equal. Even the most seasoned celebrity will push you out of the way in order to get a picture of Air Force One landing. Suddenly, everyone's just an excited kid in a candy shop and the hierarchy and sense of "celebrity" disappears. And that makes for a good time.

Please watch In Performance At The White House: The Motown Sound TONIGHT on your local PBS!
Lemme know what you think.
