As much as I want to be all Hatey McHatey Pants McGhee and pretend like I don't give two craps about this wedding, I can't lie in that way. Princess Diana fascinated me and Kate Middleton is quite frankly radiant. She looks like someone who would be a great wingwoman and despite her best attempts, there's a bit of mischief behind her smile. I'm more fascinated by her than I am by her groom, in all honesty. So I wish them the best. But when it comes down to it, how can you not be fascinated by the world's most extravagant wedding? It's going to be a bit of a circus!

These beautiful Alexander McQueen cuffs that just arrived at the Outnet are right up Cornpuddin' and my alley and right out of our budget ($654) by about $600. Cornpuddin' got me into dramatic jeweled cuffs and now I can't stop. Thanks, Cornpuddin'. I think the yellow is the best one. Can you imagine how it would glimmer when it catches the sun?

It happens once a week.
I'm having a pleasant conversation with someone and then I mention that I'm not on facebook. I get one of two responses. Either it's "bummer" but usually it's "good for you, I'm going to quit one day too". Here's the thing. I don't hate facebook (well maybe a little). I hate lukewarm friendships. Why LOL with someone you hardly like, when you can give someone you love a hug or write a heart felt email (or even better, a letter)? I feel more warmth towards the lovely folks who read and comment on this blog than I did for half my facebook friends (and I had about 300). I don't miss it. At all.
Life is too short to spread yourself so thinly.

Unless you're religious, Easter seems like one of those weird holidays where you shuffle idly and wonder how you're suppose to celebrate it.
Five Things I Did On Easter:
1. Swig Martinelli's and pretend like it's alcohol.
2. Cozy up with a book when I felt like I had overeaten.
3. Wear tall heels and stand around my Mum and my Grammy, making them feel short.
4. Take my sister's dog for a walk around the neighborhood with my Dad while my pregnant sister naps like it's her job.
5. Feel happy that my loved ones genuinely enjoy the company of one another (most of the time).

My friend Yasuyo is back in Japan now with her husband and family. But before she left we prepared little eggs for her friend's kids in Japan. She is so crafty and creative, I never could have come up with this mix in a million years. I mean, kids love miniture umbrellas. Didn't you used to fight over them with your siblings when your parents ordered a fancy drink? We carefully filed down the edges of the umbrellas and flags with a nail file so none of the little ones hurt themselves. That girl thinks of everything. And I miss her already.

Do you catch yourself in the quietest of moments wanting to bounce on your bed like a child? (I know, me too). This chair from from Velichko Velikov for Italian manufacturer LAGO looks positively appealing and has all the right components of both practical and fun.

I personally love the way Barneys has styled their in house collection for this look book. I've noticed that my own style has become more toned down and basic as of late but I'm always loving fresh ideas for age old classics. I find the details tend to be in the shoes. To paraphrase Inny Vinny . . . you can have the most basic outfit but if you pair with a nice pair of shoes, you win every time!

Opening Ceremony's AW11 lookbook features the most beautiful and radiant Frankie Rayder. Typically, I would love this lookbook because the clothes and theme are pitch perfect but in addition Frankie Rayder might be one of the most favorite models ever. She is just gorgeous. If you disagree, I don't think we can be friends anymore.

How amazing are these bird inspired shoes by Kobi Levi? Finally, someone made a worthy match for Björk's infamous, beautiful swan dress. Occasionally I find myself wishing I had just a little bit more money so I could support new and amazing designers regardless of the cost. It'd be nice to be a fashion philanthropist (on top of a bunch of other philanthropy).
UPDATE: I sent Kobi Levi an email asking if his shoes would ever go into production and I received a kind response:
Thanks for the compliments.
I'm looking into options of limited edition production, and I can update when
there will be news
YAY! My pocketbook can hardly wait.

I thought for a minute that Orla Kiely's sartorial offerings were a bit too twee and precious for my often rough-and-tumble lifestyle, but these two selections hit all the checkpoints of what a summer dress should look like.
It's that time of year again. Everything is in full bloom. I still haven't put my sweaters away yet and unearthed the summer clothes from the containers under the bed. But my nose has finally unstuffed itself and my nagging cough is beginning to subside. I am not quite ready to run around with my legs on display unlike everyone else I know of. Not quite flippy flop weather yet. However this jaunty yellow dress from ASOS says "springtime" without me having to vocally project my joy.
It's a funny thing, wearing bright colors while walking around DC. You're either met with looks of obvious approval or glares of annoyance (as if my dress has ruined someone's day). We are a city of neutrals and black but my goodness, do I enjoy stirring the pot.

Stolen from a friend's blog.
I think my favorite part of this unusual song and video is when the kid is crawling on the floor belting in out in an adult's voice. Sometimes, I love kids.
I am up to my ears in baby names. My brother-in-law made a google document so that the entire family could weight in on the naming of my niece. Naming a child is tricky bizness and nothing seems to be sticking (except the ridiculous names). This morning it would seem the entire family was signed on at the same time, with their two cents, making snarky notes in each others columns. I like that google docs shows revisions in real time. Cornpuddin' kept deleting certain names from my column, the little pain. Hope everyone had an eventful weekend.
